What is bimatoprost ophthalmic?
Lumigan / Latisse (Bimatoprost)Bimatoprost ophthalmic reduces pressure in the eye by increasing the amount of fluid that drains from the eye.
Generic for Lumigan is used to lower high pressure inside the eyes, which can be caused by glaucoma, intraocular hypertension, or other eye diseases. By treating high eye pressure, blindness and visual field loss can be prevented.
Bimatoprost solution is also a treatment for hypotrichosis used to grow eyelashes, making them longer, thicker and darker. Bimatoprost is believed to affect the growth (anagen) phase of the eyelash hair cycle in two ways: first, it increases the length of this phase; and second, it increases the number of hairs in this growth phase.
